Our Bowling Green location, official, has been closed.
As I write this, I think of my parents who founded this business 14 years ago. I think of the love and struggle and effort they put into keeping the Happy Badger a relevant part of the local business conversation in Northwest Ohio.
I think of all of our employees over the years… how they have gone from staff to some of our closest friends. And I think of all the supporters over the years. Customers, friends and family that have made this place what it has always been…..an ever-evolving community gathering place with an emphasis on ethics over profit.
As of June 1st, the Happy Badger in Bowling Green will be closing its doors. We have simply outgrown our space and it is no longer possible to pursue the type of food we have become so passionate about. Although we love grilled cheese and soup as much as the next person, the pressures and time constraints of catering to people on lunch breaks never quite lined up with our own philosophies of preparing, enjoying and presenting delicious food. Our focus and attention has shifted from Monday-Friday lunch service into fine dining, location specific pop-up dinners and weekend brunches. If anyone has seen our kitchen in Bowling Green, you will understand why it isn’t possible to expand any more than we already have…. We Must Evolve!
Anyone that is familiar with the Happy Badger knows that it has always been in a constant state of flux…we have been in Cricket West, Westgate, Reynolds Road and Bowling Green. We started with Home-made Chai and Sweaters from Guatemala and now serve Braised Lamb Shanks and French Toast. We have re-purposed what was originally an old house into a clothing store into a lunch restaurant and now it is time we take it one step further…but before we do, we need to take this step back.
While we search for the perfect space and take a little inventory of our own aspirations, We will be continuing our weekly brunch service at Black Kite Coffee (Saturdays from 1030-230) and are planning a variety of pop-up dinners in both Toledo and Bowling Green.
If you are interested in staying in the know with our future goings on or want to get in touch… please follow us on Facebook, our Website www.happybadger.com, or by signing up for our mailing list at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Behalf of myself (Ben Cohen), my sister Sarah and everyone who has ever worked with us through the years,
We sincerely appreciate you. And look forward to growing together into something even more sustainable, more
in line with our ideals, and more delicious.
